Time Capsule in Brookside Estates

I happened upon this amazing estate sale after dropping the kids off at daycare today. Holy tamales! This home is in our neighborhood, Brookside Estaes, in Windsor Park (East/Central Austin). We've walked by this house dozens of times. House looks typical enough from the street...

Who knew that on the inside lurked a retro-licious time capsule?

Coral laminate? I'll take it!

Nice copper collection!

The wallpaper left me speechless...

Galley kitchen with red/orange laminate countertops.

Formal dining under the most incredible swag lamp EVER.

Accent walls!

GOLD Tile!

Swoon!

I need to go back and get this...

The formal living room had LUCITE furniture purchased from the 80's...

I've always loved those smoke mirrors...

But wait, there's more! The upstairs had two bedrooms and a bathroom...for the kids! If it was any better I couldn't stand it!

An INTERCOM. I've wanted one of these for years. You'd hear me saying:
"Another cup of coffee please!"
"Bring me a beer!"
"Go to BED!"

A laundry shoot! Wad your pants up super small to make sure they get down all the way...

The POOL, boss, the POOL!

For the "Patio Belles..."

Last but not least...glitter light switch plates!

The only problem? It's right across the street from a house with a double lot that contains a lot of rusted old RVs, boats, trucks, etc. Too bad, so sad!

Will post pictures of my purchases soon...

Happy Hour Friday: Highland Fling

I'd say this fella is definitely going to have his Highland Fling.

1 1/2 oz. scotch whisky
3/4 oz. sweet vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters
olive for garnish

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a cocktail glass and add the olive.

From House and Garden, 1973

(Let me know how this one turns out because I haven't tried it yet. And tell me what kind of scotch you use.)
