Hello, dear readers. How was your weekend? A good portion of mine was spent photographing an epic 9-hour wedding for some huge UT fans, complete with sculpted "Bevo" cake that even had a chocolate "cow patty". Serious!
Inspired by that event and Meredith's weekend posts, I thought I'd do a little post about retro wedding attire from a time when EVERY wedding did NOT end with a rousing version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" with everyone on the dance floor, singing along.
From the teeny-tiny-waisted dresses and fabulous hairdos of Liz [Meredith, THAT's the hairdo I want!! Can those ladies do that for me??] and Jackie, to Priscilla's copious veil and awesome eyeliner, these 1950s and '60s brides had it goin' on!
As with most everything else, you can find great vintage pieces on Etsy and eBay, as well as vintage-inspired new items. Check out these retro wedding invitations I found on flickr!
One final note for you Texas brides: do not, under any circumstances, get married in August in this state. It's heinous. Like the pain of childbirth, you may miraculously forget from summer to summer how hot it actually gets here while you are under the love-induced euphoria of wedding planning, but I'm here to remind you it sucks the big one. No one likes to sweat through their Sunday best. I'm just sayin. Best to you and yours.

Jennie--lovely post! That wedding you shot sounds wild. Cow patty indeed...Did they sing "The Eyes of Texas" too?
ReplyDeleteYou KNOW IT, Meredith!!! Right before they cut the cake. It was something.
