Ambient Music for the Dinner Party

Nothing can make or break an evening like music. If you're having a dinner party, you may want to start with some nice, mellow ambient music before moving on to the dance party phase. We at Retro-luxe still favor vinyl. Sure, ipods with their infinite playlists are more convenient. But vinyl is cooler in many ways: great album cover art, interesting liner notes, and let's face it, people get excited about the ritual of picking out a record. The good news: vinyl can be had for cheap at thrift stores like Goodwill. We usually don't pay over .99 and we've found some real treasures. Here are some favorites:
People get real excited about this one!
I really love Dick Contino!
Eydie Gorme singing in Spanish with Los Panchos. A family favorite!
Your guests will be enchanted by the bird calls in the background.
Cool and jazzy.
You just can't go wrong with Dino. Ever.
For dessert, we suggest Jerry Byrd, Dusty Springfield, the Delphonics and maybe a little Bobby Womack. What would you suggest, dear readers?

  3. We had that first album in the house when I was a kid. I loved the cover! I also adore Martin Denny, and that Exotica cover is so frameworthy!

  4. Dino is good anytime, anywhere. Miles Davis is always a favorite as well.
